Summer might be the favorite season for weddings, but I think there’s nothing more romantic than a winter wedding! What’s not to love about roaring fires, warming cocktails, and the magical prospect of falling snow? And, while winter destination weddings are usually all about escaping the cold, there are lots of incredible locations around the world where you can embrace the season instead. From Narnia-like snowy wonderlands to cities sparkling with lights, here are seven of the coolest winter wedding destinations.
Jukkasjärvi, Sweden
Saying “I do” in an ice chapel under the northern lights? Yes, please! In Swedish Lapland, just north of the Arctic Circle, you’ll find the Swedish Ice Hotel, which is literally carved out of snow and ice each winter. You can get married in the Ice Church before dining on traditional Arctic cuisine with a Michelin star twist at tables adorned with ice sculptures.
Budir, Iceland
The strikingly beautiful, desolate landscapes of Iceland make for the most epic wedding photographs. In Budir, you can exchange vows in the iconic little black church, on a white sandy beach, or in the middle of a mossy lava field with a glacier in the background!
Aspen, Colorado
Of course! Having sent many snow brides down the aisle here in Colorado, I can safely say it’s one of the most magical places for a winter destination wedding. Whether you’re looking for ski resort luxury or rustic romance, our venues deliver. For the ultimate winter wonderland ceremony, you can ride the gondola up to The Little Nell’s wedding deck, where the snow-capped Rocky Mountain vistas can’t be beat! Plus, there’s plenty for your guests to do, from skiing to dog sledding, to enjoying the local cuisine.
Paris, France
If you prefer a chic city vibe, then the ultimate winter wedding destination has to be the City of Lights! Paris is of course an incredibly romantic place to wed all year round, but there’s nothing quite like a Parisian snowfall to set the scene.
Mayo, Ireland
For a winter destination truly fit for royalty, head for Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland. Roaring log fires in antique fireplaces, mulled wine, twinkling candlelight and sweeping scenery for photographs make this grand castle venue something truly special.
Fukushima, Japan
For something truly off the beaten path, head to Fukushima province in Japan, a true winter wonderland just an hour or so from Tokyo. Snow-covered forests and mirrored lakes, hot spring spas and villages filled with the light of painted candles each night make this a truly special experience. Perfect for an elopement!
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
I recently posted about this under-the-radar gem and how Wyoming is the perfect wedding location for adventure and nature lovers. Jackson Hole especially is an up and coming wedding destination. Majestic mountains, sweeping landscapes covered in snow, and cozy luxury venues. Bliss!
What do you think? Have these incredible winter wedding destinations inspired you to opt for a celebration in the snow?
