10 Elevated Mountain Wedding Cakes

Choosing a wedding cake can seem like one of the less detailed parts of wedding planning. Maybe you even consider it just another check on that to do list. But your wedding cake can be so more than just a dessert. With a bit of thought and creativity, it can actually be a design feature too! But where to start with inspiration? Well, if you’re planning a Colorado destination wedding, what better place than the venue? It’s fun to have a cake that reflects the destination’s aesthetic, whether that’s through nature-inspired details or the mountains themselves. As a Colorado wedding planner, I’ve seen some beautiful and creative mountain wedding cakes over the years. So here are ten of my favorites!

Fondant Mountains

One of the most elegant ways to turn a classic wedding cake into a piece of mountain wedding art is to have your designer add mountain detailing to the fondant. This isn’t obvious from far away, so it makes a lovely surprise as you get close. You could also decorate the rest of the cake with local wildflowers, berries, leaves or grasses. Or, as one of our Bella couples did, with tiny fondant trees, for the full ski run look!

Wooden Detailing

Wood is one of the classic textures for a rustic mountain wedding cake. Since we’re surrounded by beautiful trees, there’s lots to inspire! From a single wood-textured layer to full tree trunk-style cakes, it’s a sweet detail for a Colorado wedding celebration.

Knit Patterns

For a cozy wintery detail, add a knitted texture to one of the layers of your cake, like this couple did.

Forest Friends

If you don’t want to have a mountain wedding cake, you can still include a fun rustic touch in the topper! This Bella couple chose a sweet moose pair to top an otherwise classic cake, bringing in a fun national park touch.
