how-to-honeymoon-colorado

I may be more than a little biased, but when it comes to homegrown honeymoon destinations, this little piece of heaven I call home literally comes out tops! Colorado offers couples a huge variety of options depending on the season, not to mention dazzlingly romantic mountain scenery all year round. Whether you come for the adventure sport, the culture or the history, there’s plenty to see and do. We’re also blessed with some amazing luxury resorts and hotels, where they know exactly how to make a pair of newlyweds feel pampered. Forget the long-haul flight! If you’re planning a destination wedding in Colorado, then adding on a honeymoon here is the way to go! Colorado also makes a great minimoon destination for anyone in the states looking for something closer to home. Here are four great ways to honeymoon in Colorado, no matter the season.

Winter

Days on the slopes in the crisp mountain air, nights by a roaring fire… Winter honeymoons in Colorado are oh-so-romantic! As well as skiing, you can try activities like snowmobiling, dog sledding, outdoor ice skating or snow tubing, then warm up and chill out in a luxury spa. One of our favorite snow season spots is The Little Nell, Aspen’s only ski-in ski-out hotel. Featuring beautifully decorated rooms and five star service, including a ski concierge, it’s a wonderful place to start your new lives together! …It’s also a great wedding venue with a ceremony and reception site at the top of Aspen Mountain!

For something a little more secluded, check out Vista Verde Ranch outside of Steamboat Springs. Learn to line dance together, ice fish in the morning and snuggle up in your own private jacuzzi on your cabin patio in the evening while you watch the snow fall. If you love horses, then you’ll really love this place – feed their 100+ horses or watch them race by, ride through several feet of snow on horseback and take a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride at dusk. It doesn’t get more romantic than that!

Spring

Spring is also a great time to enjoy a ski honeymoon, since you’ll still find snow on the slopes. The difference is that you won’t have to compete with high season crowds. Perfect for an intimate honeymoon escape! It’s also the time for festivals and events, like the Estes Park Mountain Music Festival. Soak in some of the local culture or try out one of our award-winning restaurants. And once the powder melts and the wildflowers come out, there isn’t a prettier place on earth to be with your love!

Summer

Summer honeymoons in Colorado are ideal for active couples who love the outdoors. Horseback riding, zip lining, white water rafting, paddle boarding, boating, fishing – you can do it all. Hikes and biking trails are a great way to glory in the mountain scenery, exploring canyons, waterfalls and sunny meadows. If your pleasure is more history than hiking, visit Wild West town Durango, where you can also enjoy a fantastic steam train experience. Taylor River Lodge is a luxury ranch at its finest, where you can enjoy candlelit dinners and late night s’mores roasting, organic farm-to-table cuisine and a rocking chair on your cabin’s deck to listen to the waters rush by.

Fall

Autumn is when the Colorado landscape is set ablaze with leaves turning every color from rust to yellow to plum. It’s a peaceful time to honeymoon here. Enjoying a long country walk and then drop into one of our many amazing craft breweries for a tasting. Fall is also your last chance to enjoy a romantic hot air balloon ride before the end of the season in October.

The bottom line, no matter when you come to Colorado for your honeymoon or minimoon, you’re going to love it, I promise!
