For some couples, who don’t know where to begin when it comes to organizing their wedding, hiring a wedding planner is a no-brainer. For others, especially those of you who love the logistics of hosting an event or getting creative with design, you may wonder if the extra expense is worth it. Of course, you can plan your wedding yourself, just like you can remodel your home without a contractor. It’s a lot more time consuming, stressful, and often, costly. You don’t know what you don’t know and that can cause the event to suffer and the bottom line too. And come wedding day, you may find yourself short staffed while you try to celebrate. I’m a little biased of course, but to me, a wedding coordinator is one of the most critical components of a wedding day. Not just for all the things everyone knows we do, but for all the extra little ways that we can make a couple’s wedding day their best one. So here are five things you didn’t know your wedding planner could do for you!
Help You Stay on Budget. Wedding finances can be a challenge for anyone, but a wedding planner can help you stay on track. An experienced planner can even save you money overall by advising where you can stretch your budget and how to avoid expensive mistakes. Right at the start of the process, a planner will help you to develop and oversee a realistic wedding budget. As the months go by, they’ll keep sight of when payments are due so that no deadline is ever missed. They’ll also help you understand where you should spend and perhaps where you can skip.
Navigate Family Dynamics. Unfortunately, weddings can cause heightened emotions and bring out some old family politics. A wedding planner can act as a neutral party, mediating between family members, finding compromises, and even taking the blame when alerting Aunt Hilda that she can’t sing Ave Maria at your ceremony.
Vet Potential Wedding Vendors. As a newcomer to the industry, it can be hard to know who to trust and you’ve got one chance to get it right. A good wedding planner will help you recruit your dream team, using their contacts to make sure that potential hires are reputable. A wedding planner will also help you by reviewing vendor contracts, so nothing is overlooked.
Elevate the Guest Experience. Having happy guests is part of what makes for a great event, especially if you’re planning a destination wedding. Your wedding planner can help to make it a wonderful experience for them by coordinating details like travel, hotel room blocks, and transportation. They can even help deliver welcome bags and come up with those little details that make a big impact.
Give You a Good Night’s Sleep. Okay, so your wedding planner isn’t going to tuck you up and sing you to sleep the night before your wedding! But they will act as a buffer between you and any last minute problems (that you may never even know arise). Knowing that your big day is in capable hands and all you need to do is say “I do” will help you rest easy and get that all-important beauty sleep! Then come the wedding day, you can sit back and enjoy while your planning team goes to work behind-the-scenes long before and after you’re at the party.
