When we first heard about Event Blueprint, a design workshop created by Emily Clarke Events, we were thrilled to see such an immersive, design-focused workshop (and the amazing speakers!). And that was before Emily invited us on board to co-host and produce the workshop in Denver! We spent the summer brainstorming, compiling a group of industry pros to share their expertise, and designing a Design Laboratory in which our attendees could collaborate, explore, and flex their creative muscles.

On July 21st, we gathered with 47 guests at the Denver Botanic Gardens for a day full of presentations, workshops, meet-and-greets, and a few fun surprises. After a light breakfast in the Gates Hall Court, the speaker presentations began. First up? Marcy Blum of Marcy Blum Associates, sharing her insight into the evolution of an event space. Then Julian Leaver, founder of The Dapper Diplomat, gave our venue and hotel reps his tips for vendor etiquette, followed by Rebecca Crumley from The Knot revealing all the incredible industry stats they collect every year. We can’t rave enough about how useful those facts and figures are!

Jill Livingston of Eclectic Hive broke down the relationship between planners and decor companies, reminding us again how crucial great decor is to a successful design. Then we got a special treat: a delicious lunch in the newly reopened American Gardens, catered by Catering by Design!

We made the most of the Botanic Gardens’ sprawling and diverse displays with a photoshoot in the Woodlands Gazebo, led by Otto Schulze of James + Schulze. Then Emily Clarke jumped in to walk through the styled shoot process, breaking down what it takes to turn a vision into a beautifully photographed reality. Last but not least, Nathan Cox of Pink Monkey Solutions, who reminded us that any great event design isn’t complete without killer lighting. After all, without it, no one will be able to see your hard work!

A Q&A with the speakers led into cocktail hour. We loved having the chance to mingle with all of our attendees, chatting about how they’ve been inspired and the ways they’ll use their newfound insight to further their designs and their business. With the goal of providing attendees with tangible tools and actionable skills to create fabulous designs of their own, we’d say this workshop was a roaring success. We can’t wait to see where Event Blueprint takes us next!
