Lindsey Vonn Foundation Event: An Evening with Rosalind Wiseman

After the amazing launch of the Lindsey Vonn Foundation in February, we paired up with Lindsey again to host the foundation’s first event. What better way to do that than with an evening of empowerment with Rosalind Wiseman? Ms. Wiseman has authored many books on the culture of dignity, and is best known for her book Queen Bees and Wannabes, which provided the inspiration for Tina Fey’s hit movie Mean Girls.

We headed back to our beloved Donovan Pavilion in Vail and joined 225 girls, moms, sisters, and friends (and a few brave men) to talk about everything from building strong female friendships, to working through bullying, to the best ways for daughters to talk to their parents and for parents to help their girls. It was invigorating to see the goal of the Lindsey Vonn Foundation come to life before our eyes. Girls and moms tackled tough topics, new friendships were formed, and Lindsey was up front supporting the dialogue, answering questions, taking photos and popping into the photo booth, provided by Go Photo Booth, where guests donned her race helmets, goggles, and Olympic medals. Even my little daughter, Victoria, got in on the action!

From a personal perspective, I so enjoyed sharing the experience with my daughter. She and the rest of our attendees got to become a part of a group of young women who want to be productive members of society, and who wish to encourage and support one another, especially during those rough middle school years. Victoria says that she and Lindsey are becoming friends, and a mom couldn’t hope for a better role model!

Sugar supplied the sweets, pairing pink lemonade with individual lemon meringue pies, root beer float pies, pastel-hued macarons, red velvet cake pops, and more, and Vintage Magnolia topped the tables with lush white blooms. Nate Agnini took these gorgeous photos and Larisa Graham videotaped the event. Our local vendors continue to impress me with their kindness, creativity and generosity. The evening was a huge success, and we can’t wait to spread the word about the Lindsey Vonn Foundation camps, scholarships, and upcoming events!
